“To achieve the highest accomplishments within the scope of our capabilities in all walks of life, we must constantly strive to acquire strong, healthy bodies and develop our minds to the limit of our ability”

- Joseph Pilates - Return to life through Contrology

Principles

These rules are to be adhered to thoughout all Pilates exercises.

Centering:
Focus on working the same on both sides of the body, unless unilateral training.

Control:
Focus on disengaging major muscles and engaging core muscles and stabiliser muscles. Major muscles play a secondary role. This will create a leaner more toned body opposed to 'bulking'.

Concentration:
No momentum is used and over compensating results from not concentrating in which case major muscles are engaged as opposed to core muscles.

Flowing Movement:
Constantly challenge the body to endure.

Posture and Alignment:
Train in the correct anatomical stance.

Breathing Techniques:
Narrows the waist line and side profile. Defines side profile, corrects posture, lifts breasts (females) and squares pectoral muscles (males)
